After Arkansas residents effectively voted on election day to strip Cherokee Nation Entertainment of the license it received in June, the company is now suing the state.<\/p>\n<p>The <a href=\"https:\/\/www.vegasslotsonline.com\/news\/2024\/11\/06\/us-election-day-gambling-initiative-updates-missouri-gets-legal-sports-betting-by-less-than-7500-votes\/\">constitutional amendment named Issue 2 passed overwhelmingly<\/a>, despite voters in Pope County itself wanting the development to proceed.<\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote\">\n<p>called upon a federal judge to rule the amendment unconstitutional <\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>The plaintiffs called upon a federal judge to rule the amendment unconstitutional before issuing a preliminary injunction and temporary restraining order to stop the amendment from coming into law on Wednesday.<\/p>\n<p>Controversy over Pope County\u2019s casino dates back to the 2018 election when voters approved four counties to get commercial casinos. Gaming facilities are up and running in the three other jurisdictions, but years-long legal action has meant no development has ever come to Pope County.<\/p>\n<p>The Arkansas Racing Commission <a href=\"https:\/\/www.vegasslotsonline.com\/news\/2024\/06\/28\/cherokee-nation-finally-gets-green-light-for-new-arkansas-casino-after-years-of-legal-action\/\">awarded Cherokee Nation Entertainment the license in June<\/a>.
